If by Rudyard Kipling

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream—-and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—-and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build’em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—-nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—-which is more—-you’ll be a Man, my son!

“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you become great.”

Do you ever watch a movie and come away saying “Wow, holy shit that was powerful.” You walk away almost as if your life will take another course. Everything seems clear. What was a complicated set of chess pieces now seems so simple. Well, I have that feeling right now.

The movie I just watched is called “Into the Wild.” Here is the Wikipedia link to the story. It basically is about a kid who graduates from a prestigious college and just gets into Harvard law school. Everything seems perfect, but the character Christopher doesn’t seem to like the life society has laid out for him or life he sees himself living in the future. He abruptly leaves town and embarks on series of adventures through rural America, by train and hitchhike, and finally ends up in Alaska. Movies can have different messages to different people. A couple of thoughts I got from the movie.

Life is too short.
Don’t take anything for granted.
Live every second like its your last.
Happiness is best shared with others.
There is no life you have to take. You choose your course.
Whatever you do in life, love it or quit and do something else.
You should feel free. If not, you are not living your dream.
Take a second to enjoy the journey you are on everyday. You don’t have to know the end but should be having a damn good time getting there.

Russia has a new head of state! or do they…Medvedev, who was elected with over 70% of the vote, scored a crushing victory in Russia’s elections on Sunday. The caveat: Putin is to be is prime minister. Medvedev is seen as a West-Friendly president but with Putin near his side, who knows. Man, people think Mitt Romney looked to perfect…how bout this guy?

Skinny Love - Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

I heard Bon Iver for the first time yesterday morning on Daryn’s tumblog and was instantly hooked. I’ve been obsessed for the past 24 hours, particularly by this song called Skinny Love. Man oh man is this good.
